"Memories Are Forever"

The quote “Memories are forever,” is a strong statement. Once you make memories, you can’t remove them. They’re always going to be there. People make many memories, some that they like and some that they don’t like. No matter what, you’re always going to have an image of the memory once you create it. Memories are everlasting, and everyone in the world has them. I believe that happiness comes from memories. Sadness can also come from memories, but happiness should always overcome sadness. When I think of memories, I think about all of the happy times that I’ve had. Christmas is a happy memory that I like to think about. I like the memory of Christmas because it’s always a happy time of the year. Everyone’s cheerful and music is played all around.
Memories happen everyday. You can create memories at home, outside, and even in school. They’re always going to be on your mind. When you think of the past, you think about the memories that happened there. Even when you think about family, the memories come to you. Memories occur everyday and sometimes people can’t control memories. It’s what you do that creates the memory. While you’re spending time with someone and having fun, you're creating a memory.
In conclusion, everyone creates memories everyday. Many times you don’t even know you’re creating a memory, it just happens. I like to create happy memories that I can remember forever. Memories can be happy, sad, and even depressing. Happiness is all your memory should be about.

You May Lie

 Neysa Porter                                                                                     November 14, 2014
                                           You May Lie

Whether you know it or not, our world revolves around lies. You never know what is true and what is a lie. It’s very simple and could either hurt or pleasure someone. Lying can be very hypocritical to those who dislike it. For instance, for me personally I do not like those who lie to me. Although, I can admit I have lied before and it’s not a thing to be happy for doing but I have. Lying could be for good purposes or bad purposes but it’s a fact the majority of people lie for bad purposes. Lying is what blinds the world to seek the truth, it tests our fate.
I believe that sometimes lies can be a good thing for people. A lot of people may not know the truth but it can be a good thing to hide the truth from certain people in certain predicaments. Even though I dislike being lied to, sometimes it’s the best for me and people around the world. When people lie they can cover the truth. For example, a Father gives his daughter a hideous Christmas sweater. She lies to him and says she likes it, however she was trying to protect his feeling from getting hurt. This clearly explains to you how lying can sometimes be for good purposes. It sometimes shows your love and care towards a person you don’t want to hurt. Lies cover up the truth and the truth can be even more painful that a lie.
When you think of the word “lie”, you mainly think of the word in the negative category. That is accurate because lies are usually negative. For example, A boy pours milk all over the teacher’s desk. When the teacher asks who did it the boy decides to lie and blame it on another classmate. This results to the other classmate getting in detention. This is how lies can be betrayed into a negative role. When people lie to hurt someone's feelings, it can cause a lot of controversy, conflict, and harm. Horrible lies results to horrible thoughts and leads to horrible actions. Lying can also break trust and honesty that someone once had. Lies can break apart friendships, families, marriages, and bonds that once was unbreakable until lies are formed. “ One lie can ruin a Million truths”. This quote from tumblr simply shows how lies overpower the truth and that it hurts more to accept a lie rather that the truth.
As you can see, lies can be both harmful and uplifting, its both 50/50. It can be positive by lying to prevent someones feeling from getting hurt. Lying could also be negative because if someone constantly lies it can be hard to gain full trust again. “Lie “ is a powerful word and reflects your image as a person and how you treat others. Lies are much stronger than truth.

"YOU MAY LIE"

“You may lie”. Hearing “You may lie”, that is something huge. I think that in a community where grammar is highly used, that is extremely odd to hear. This is odd because in this community everything is supposed to be perfect and there are to be absolutely no screw ups. Also lying is making a decision, and in this community you don't make choices for yourself, they are made for you. Being able to chose is what makes this community imperfect. Lying in general is a bad thing to do, but if you think about it that is what the head elders are doing to everyone in the community. In this community lying is against their law, but the head elders do it because they don't let these people know that there is more than just a few different communities out there.
To be completely honest we have no idea if there is more than just elsewhere. In my own opinion, if you have seen “The Maze Runner” I think it may be a bit like that, where there are scientist who are in control of the community. To be honest at this minute we can not make any assumptions just yet because we have exactly no idea what is out beyond the community. All that we know for right now is that this is a community of lies and liars. To me if I were to lie that would be a good and bad thing. this would be good because you could probably get away with a lot of things. According to http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/lies,
Mark Twain once said “If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything”. Thats how lying can go wrong, its better to just tell the truth than to lie, because when you lie the only person you hurt is yourself. Also lying makes you think that what ever you are lying about is the truth. A fact from http://io9.com/10-things-you-didnt-know-about-lying-1175676651 states that ‘All Americans lie at least once a day and think they got away with it.” Also from this website I quote “Compulsive lying makes you smarter”, now look I do not agree with lying. But could lying make you smarter that is the question? I think that it may make you smarter, but you don’t have to always lie. Lying can also  be one of the WORST thing to do. Lying in my opinion is like a drug, and this drug is very addictive. I know people that are compulsive liars, and they tell me it’s hard to not lie sometimes.

Decisions (KJ)

“If everything’s the same, then there aren't any choices! I want to wake up in the morning and decide things!” This quote from “The Giver” expresses Jonas’ anger toward the sameness and order of the community. It gives us the idea that he wants to change the world he lives in.
Decisions are extremely important. They separate us from machines. We need decisions because without them we aren't human. Imagine if all 7 billion people in the world couldn’t choose. Would you want to live in that world? I think not, because decisions are one of the most important things in a person’s life. One little choice to wear blue instead of orange can change the whole outcome of a day. We need decisions, they make sure we are in control, not someone else.
What if we didn't have decisions? Life would be horrible! Everyone would be a drone sent out to do their task. Without decisions we wouldn't be human! The average person makes about 228 decisions a day. Now if we didn't make those decisions we would be like a dog, trained to do what our master wants when the master wants it. There wouldn't be a point to living. Would you want to live without being able to make decisions? I know I wouldn't; I’d rather die!

Choices Make A Difference

The quote, “If everything’s the same, then there aren’t any choices! I want to wake up in the morning and decide things!” is a crucial thought to my life. Differences let you make a choice, and being the same would be plain. We can create a careless or good choice. Our feelings and mind affects our choices at times. There are times we want to have courage, so we take the chance anyways. It turns out to be the wrong choice and we end up facing the consequence. The consequence can be a variety of things. One consequence can have a more immense effect than the other. Choices are crucial. One choice can turn anything around fast.
According to James E. Faust, he says that choices can give us opportunities and if we delay it then the chance may never be there again. The statement is accurate because every second we have a chance to have a different result depending on what we decide. In “The Giver,” Jonas has a successful plan but chooses to take Gabriel with him which makes the situation change. Jonas could have stayed in the community, but he decided to take the chance to leave at night because he was striving to see a world of colors and differences. What I choose to speak, say, or do in my life can affect me and others. Choices can be mistakes or wonderful events, but we still absorb knowledge from them. Choices give us understanding on the situation and which choice is the wisest.. Everything is a choice in our life, and the reason we have choices is because of differences.

We Have To Stop Bullying Around The World!!

Bullying is something that shouldn’t be in our world today. Many people don’t think about bullying, and that’s part of the problem. We should try our best to prevent bullying around the world. Maybe we can start being nice to one another and not being rude or obnoxious. We shouldn’t judge people by their hair style or the clothes they wear. Maybe they like wearing those things. Many people are being bullied in today’s world because of how they look and that’s unnecessary. Would you like if someone bullied you because of how you look? I know I wouldn’t.
When someone is getting bullied, they get hurt. They may not be physically hurt, but they are hurt on the inside. You should be the person preventing bullying! Think about what it would be like if you were the victim. No one in the world wants to be bullied, but there are some cruel people out there that are doing it! If you see someone getting bullied, tell someone! Don’t just sit there and let it happen. Go to a teacher, or a staff member, and pick up for the person that is getting bullied. Talk to the person getting bullied, help them feel better. You can make an end to bullying, but only if you try!

This First Change Starts With You !!

Not many students think about bullying and that’s part of the problem. According to my research on teens of america.org, over 3.2 million students are bullied each year ,and bullying takes part in a half of the deaths of teenagers. This is because no one wants to take part in stopping bullying.  Most people think just because they’re a bystander that they don't take part in bullying , but little do they know they increase the hurt of the victims.  If you don’t condone bullying you must try to do everything in your power to stop others from hurting people, instead of sitting and watching it happen. There are numerous ways to stop bullying. The most important thing to do to stop bullying is to speak up and talk about openly rather than exacerbating bullying by doing nothing.According to Maria B about bullying article, the victims tormentor will only stop if you speak up and tell them to stop.  Remember the first change starts with you.
Bullying is no joking matter and we all have to speak up before bullying takes an even bigger a toll on our lives. Most victims of bullying feel alone when they have nobody to stick up for them. People who get bullied may choose to end their own life. Bullying leaves scars of pain on the victim, mentally, emotionally and most of time physically.  Bullying some everyday can add up to a lot of pain and suffering.   Many who get bullied don’t show the pain but it is there and can lead to terrible end.  Bullying takes place everywhere you can think of .  According to stop bullying. com, most American schools hold 2.1 million bullies and 2.7 million victims , and if you don’t speak up the bullies and victims will increase and someone else’s life will be in danger. So, if you know someone is out there getting bullied and that their life is in danger, just know all good days have  bad endings and you have the power to stop bullying. You must speak up for one another, to stop people from hurting one another.

Anti-Bullying Campaign (NP)

Not many students think about the bullying, and thats a part of the problem. Bullying is one of the biggest problems today for teenagers.Bullying can take place’s from being at school to social media. People who condone bullying are just as bad as the person bullying the victim. Bullying can vary from being physically, mentally, and emotionally abusing. As a whole, we need to put a stop to bullying around the world and speak up !

Bullying is a challenging subject to talk about, especially if you have been or are being bullied yourself. When a victim is being bullied and people around them are laughing or paying attention to what the bully is doing, you are entertaining the situation. As a bystander you should stop the negative behavior and stick up for what is right. For example, when you are walking down the hallways and see someone being called a name or getting pushed around, you should either tell the bully to stop or get an adult to stop the situation. The biggest problem with teenagers and bullying today is most teens want to be the cool kids and fit in with everybody else. This causes kids to not want to tell an adult because “snitching” is what causes everyone to not like you or to not be your friend anymore.Fitting in and being cool also affects teenagers or kids in school to not speak up for the victim getting bullied. This also causes a lot of anxiety, pain, depression, or stress for the victim. As a bystander you are a part of the problem because you are not saying or doing anything about the problem. Bullying is one of the biggest problems with teens in society today and we need to change that.

One time, I was in the 6th grade and I was involved in a lot of drama. My friend and I were on Facebook and the girl was saying mean things about us in her status. Instead of me ignoring the situation, I said something back to her, which caused the argument to go on and on. Then she was making physical threats to me and stated that she wanted to fight me in school. My friend then told my mom about the situation, which caused my mom to look at my facebook. On Monday, my mom went to my school and reported the problem. This caused the girl to switch classes that my friend and I were in. At first, I was mad at my friend for telling my mom, until I realized that she was doing what was best for me and to get me out of negative behavior, I realized what a true friend was. Till this day I remember what she did for me and how she spoke up and stopped the conflict. This is what bystanders who witness bullying on the internet, at school, or anywhere should do. It is not okay to do such things to other people. I still remember the insults she made to me that hurt my feelings because it still stayed with me to this day. We should truly put bullying to an end and stick up for what is right, it takes one person to stop the violence involved with bullying.

Anti Bullying paragraph

Not many students think about bullying and that's the problem. Bulling is really horrible problem for our students because all over the world kids are being harassed for their features, how they dress, and even how they walk. This needs to absolutely stop for the sake of children around the world and for the incoming children too. To me if bullying doesn't get handled its going to get a lot worse. Some of the bullying that's bothering is the internet bullying because the internet is for looking up information not for bothering others. Its kind of really sad because some of these kids are not getting help from anyone , just getting laughed at and stared down by other students and bystanders.     Parents can help, but its kind of hard to solve a problem when you don't know what it is , so please parents ask your children if anything is happening at their school because it might save his or her life or even their future. Also the child that is being bullied you have to speak up, or you won't get help or even support. A message out to friends, '' If you see someone or your friend getting bullied or bothered by someone stand up for that person and be on the safe side by telling the teacher or principal not confronting the bully. Also hearing about children my age, close to my age, or even older taking their own lives because of bullies. This makes me upset because those children could have gotten help from other students, teacher, or even parents, but they didn't and the consequences were losses of great minds, and leaving families sorry, sad, and depressed. Thank you very much reader for reading my thoughts and ideas to stop bullying.

Anti-Bullying Campaign (AD)

Bullying

Not many students think about bullying, and that’s part of the problem. Most kids, including myself, have seen kids get bullied, but yet do nothing about it. Even though you think it’s helping, it’s not. You're just helping yourself. Stop being a bystander and taking the easy way out, it’s not OK. This has to STOP!

When a person is bullied they feel so alone. They need a person to be there for them, and you can be that person. It is our responsibility to stand up to bullying, stop being bystanders, and condoning bullying. Be there for each other. If you see bullying, don’t just stand around. Do something. You can make a big difference. Be a friend and stand up for that person. If you were bullied wouldn't you want someone to stand up or be there for you ? Treat others how you want to be treated; that is the Golden Rule.  Most kids who get bullied don't have anyone to stand up for them. They have to fend for themselves everyday at school. Some don’t even want to go to school because of the pain, and the humiliation they have to face everyday. Some kids get bullied because of their appearance, the way they walk, they way they talk. also  This causes kid to want to harm and even kill themselves. Canada has the third highest suicide rate for people 10-24.  Bullying is happening worldwide, but if we all fight against it we can put an end to bullying. I personally will begin to speak up for bullying, and me being Student Council Vice President will set an example and stop bullying in my school.

Anti-Bullying Campaign (KJ)

Not many students think about bullying and that’s part of the problem. Many kids get bullied on a daily basis. Some even believe that it’s normal for people to get bullied, that its okay. Others believe it may actually be their own fault. The few that know they aren’t to blame are the few who will stand up, will help others, and will end bullying. For too long, kids laid in bed on weeknights scared of the following morning. They felt happy when they were ignored because when they were acknowledged they were insulted, beat up, or just left thinking, “what did I do wrong?”
We need to end bullying! It is a disease that plagues our world. Too many children chose to just end their lives rather than deal with the pain for one more day. We can stop bullying if students take a stand, because bullying affects us all. If we just put effort into this problem we can end it. Now I know that Cartoon Network has their bullying programs and people run campaigns but it doesn’t help that much! Maybe one or two kids stop bullying but that doesn’t fix our problem! We need to hit the problem at its source! We need monitors in schools, guarding programs on social media, and students who speak up! Sometimes when a bully is caught and is punished they actually stop. Maybe if some students out there actually cared about their friends, bullying would end already.
That one random act of kindness opened the gates for me when I was bullied. The kid who spoke up ended most of my bullying just by saying, “hey stop that!” Imagine all the people whose bullying we can end just by lending a hand and telling the bully he’s wrong. With a few words and maybe help from a responsible adult we can end bullying in our schools. Maybe we can end all bullying, forever!

Prevent Bullying!

Not many students think about bullying, and that’s part of the problem. Bullies will keep hurting others because no one is there to cease it. They will believe it’s okay to hurt others. The victim feels like they have no voice in the conversation, so it makes it difficult to stand up for themselves. What bystanders need to do instead of laughing and staring is to stand up for the victim. Some bystanders are afraid of getting wounded by the bully and do nothing to stop it. The individual getting bullied is already in pain by you walking pass it, and it only wounds them more to see you allow it. The victim is internally begging for someone to help them, but no one really has the guts to prevent it.

You need to be the person to prevent it! Put yourself in the victim’s situation. You would want someone to come and stand up for you. A bystander may look at bullying and think it’s not as serious, but all the pain adds up one day and the victim loses it. We all need to stand up and be part of the solution. Bullying is happening everywhere, even if you don’t notice it. Bullying happens online too. If you see bullying and you’re too afraid to stop it yourself, then tell a teacher, or anyone that can help. Stand up for your friend, or even a stranger that is getting bullied.  Help and protect the victim, tell someone, and let them feel secure. You can save them by telling someone trustful, or stopping it yourself. You can walk with the person if they are getting bullied after school. Ask them if they’re okay, or be their friend.  No one likes being in pain, especially if it continually happens. Suicide is the second leading cause of death, and continuous bullying is the cause of that. Be a part of the solution and prevent bullying.

I Would Hire Someone With Poor Grammar

Neysa Porter                                                                                                                    9-23-14

I Would Hire Someone With Poor Grammar

I would hire someone with poor grammar. If they have a talent that suits my business and their personality and attitude is good, I certainly do not mind what grammar they have. If their mindset is eager and willing, they can work for me. Having poor grammar does not determine who they are and what they are. It is not smart to judge someone for the way they speak.

For example, if I was to interview someone and they have a strong London or southern accent and it affects their grammar but they are eager to get the job done and work hard, I will hire them. When somebody has an accent it can charm people and that is a positive for your business. Therefore, grammar should not be blown out of proportion when it is not determined by who you are as a person. Also, when you want to hire someone and they have bad grammar it is rude to judge them. The economy is suffering from the loss of jobs. So when you’re interviewing someone you don’t know their background life and the struggles they may go through to get a job. That’s why it s selfish, mean, and stubborn to not hire someone because of something as simple as grammar, especially when they are kind hearted to you and others around them.

From my perspective, I believe that overall, grammar does not determine who you are as a person or how you work. When using bad grammar it does not affect your talent and you physical ability. That is why I would hire someone with bad grammar.

I Wouldn’t Hire You Either

Kyle Wien the author of “I Won't Hire People Who Use Bad Grammar” is absolutely 100% correct when he says that he  will not hire people that do not use proper grammar. The thing is I don’t have the best grammar either, but I’m still in school and the people that he looks forward to hiring are most likely are most likely out of school, still this guy makes billions of dollars a year. He also has two companies and hires hundreds of people a day. If you owned two companies that were both worth billions wouldn't you want the best of the best and only that. He make’s another point by saying that if it takes you 20 years to learn how to use it’s correctly he will not hire you. I agree with him, he should hire only Grade A++ people for this company. I would do the exact same thing. People should always use amazing grammar in and out of the work space. If I were Kyle Wiens I would go into every person who applies background and make sure that, that person has always used good grammar in school. I would also want a copy of there ELA portfolio from both High School and College. To be honest if you think that you can get a job that probable pays extremely well with horrible grammar you have another thing coming.

Grammar Is Not A Big Deal !!

Grammar is not the only thing in this world to justify who you are and what you’re capable of doing.   I understand what Kyle Wiens is saying, but I have to disagree with his idea that he will not hire people who use poor grammar.  I feel as though Kyle made some really good points in his article.  Although some of them just didn't sit right with me and weren't quite accurate.  One of the points he made was grammar shows your intelligence , creativity, and job performance.  I strongly disagree with his thoughts  because  many well known famous people who either has poor grammar or can’t read.  For example, Floyd May weather , multi billionaire,  best boxer worldwide, and his bad grammar does not stop him from a skillful and meticulous boxer. Also, another statement I disagree with is people who make fewer mistakes on a grammar test also make fewer mistakes in something unrelated to writing.  I disagree with this point because, a person that makes fewer mistakes on a math test can make fewer mistakes when doing construction working, etc.  Grammar does not justify or label you as an individual.
Having bad grammar is not the end of your life.  You can still be intelligent and creative with bad grammar.  You can still achieve more than you think you can with bad grammar.  You can become as prosperous as all other rich and famous people that use incorrect grammar in their everyday lives.  Poor grammar does not signify you as a person. Grammar is not the only thing in this world that your future relies on!

Your life is based on your grammer!!

If you have poor grammar and you are trying to get into a very good job, you should just forget about it. Poor grammar doesn't just have to do with writing, it also has to do with speaking. If you can’t write with correct grammar then you are most likely not going to be able to speak with correct grammar. For example, if someone gets hired at a store that doesn't know how to speak correct grammar, it would be very hard to communicate with them. I probably wouldn't understand what they are trying to say, and it would just be very difficult to find what I am looking for.
No one should have poor grammar. You learn about grammar in school all the time, so you should not have a problem. Grammar is one of the most important things in today’s world. When being interviewed for a job, that is one of the things that the person is going to be looking at. Lots of people don’t think that grammar is such a big deal, but it is. It is something that everyone needs in their life. Many people think that even if they don’t know how to write correct grammar, that they can still talk properly. WRONG! Grammar has a big impact on the way you speak, along with the way you write.
People don’t understand how important grammar is. It’s just like learning how to talk; if you don’t learn correct grammar your speaking is going to be horrible. Good grammar is credibility, especially on the internet. When writing essays for school, posting a Facebook status, or even writing an email, you have to write in correct grammar. Grammar is a part of your grade in school. If you want full credit, your grammar is one of the things that has to be perfect.

Why We Need Great Grammar

Why We Need Great Grammar

Many people don’t use correct grammar and get great jobs such as game creators or programmers, but how’s that possible?  Some people don’t care if their workers use great grammar; I care about it. If people don’t care about grammar, how will you understand them at all!
Kyle Wiens does not hire anyone that has poor grammar and I agree with him.  He has many great points that prove that if you don’t have adequate grammar skills, they shouldn't be hired.  Kyle Wiens said,”Good grammar shows that the person cares about details.” that is true, because if you don’t put details into an article or paragraph describing an area it could be hectic. For example, someone describes a job and just says“it’s a great place to be” that person reading won’t understand.  Sometimes even grammar can tell how intelligent you are so if you only typing in four word sentences, people will think you are not very intelligent or that you are very lazy.  Many people may think some jobs don’t need you to speak much.
Every job needs you to speak even if you are a computer technician you need to speak to tell someone what has to be fixed on their computer.  There are thousands of workers that may use great grammar, but other times they use terrible grammar yet still get the job.  Grammar can signify a lot more than your knowledge.  It can show your personality, what you do frequently, and how you do it, like texting.

Kyle Wiens Is Right!

Kyle Wiens, writer of the article “I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar. Here’s Why.” has a right not to hire people he doesn't think qualify to work for him. He said that people who use poor grammar can’t work for him and it’s  easy to understand why he feels that way. He is the billionaire CEO of Dozuki and iFixit and if you want to work there you need good grammar because he believes that good grammar shows a lot about a person. I think he is right.  If he doesn't want to hire someone with bad grammar then he shouldn't have to.  Honestly, I wouldn't hire people like that either because how can they work at an extremely successful company when they use two instead of to? Those people couldn't work and they shouldn't work for Kyle or me.
Kyle is a very smart man, especially when it comes to business. I mean think about it, look how much money he’s made. If he says don’t hire people with bad grammar I would listen to him. People with bad grammar deserve jobs, just not for big companies.  I don’t hate people with bad grammar I just think that they shouldn't work for companies like Kyle’s. Customer service is an important part of a business. Don’t you want your customers to understand the workers trying to help them? I do so don’t hire people with bad grammar!

Grammar Is An Important Basic!

No matter what job you are assigned to, grammar is a basic skill that should be used in your everyday lives. I read the article from Kyle Wiens, “I Won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar.” The article is about how great grammar gives a good impression and improves how you work. Grammar is vital even if the job does not seem to require much of it. Good grammar shows your intelligence. I would want to work with people who can speak properly because I can understand them better. If you are foreign and your native language isn’t English, or you have a reading disability then that is an excuse. However, if you have none of those problems there should be no trouble speaking properly. Your grammar can give you credibility online and in real life. All you can do is type text online in posts and people will judge that. Grammar is truly essential in your life!
People who do well in their grammar tend to pay more attention to details and their performance on things unrelated to writing. It is shown that a person who doesn’t think writing is vital, they will think other things are not important. I immensely care about my grammar. I noticed that it also helps me notice how neat things are and more. Proper grammar is a way to give a good impression on people.  It is a good practice to do when you are young, so you get used to it when you are an adult applying for a job. Grammar is a skill you constantly learn in school, therefore it is common sense that you should speak it correctly. If you think grammar isn’t significant, then you may want to reconsider your thoughts.

Sucking The Marrow Out Of Life!!!!

"Sucking the marrow out of life doesn't mean choking on the bone." In the movie, Dead Poets Society, the students in Welton Academy were preparing to go to Ivy league schools to be doctors, lawyers or judges. The words that Mr Keating spoke to the boys changed their minds. They didn't want to do what their parents wanted; they wanted to be actors, musicians, sports players. They were rebels. They didn't do what their parents wanted; they did what they wanted!
The quote read by Mr. Keating makes me think about doing things that are not ordinary. Doing things “normal” is no longer an option; I have to go above and beyond. I do have a few phobias that might hold me back from being more than normal, but I think that I could overcome those fears for an exciting adventure or special activity that I wouldn't do normally.

"There’s a time for daring and there’s a time for caution, and a wise man understands which is called for."

“There’s a time for daring and there’s a time for caution, and a wise man understands which is called for.” This quote was said by Mr. Keating, the English teacher in “Dead Poet’s Society”. This quote speaks to me more than the others from the “Dead Poet’s Society”. It can mean something different to anyone who reads it but to me it means one thing. When I hear this quote, I think of being my own person, but a person who knows how to react to life. There are many lessons we must learn in school but they don’t make us wise, experience does. We must learn when it is time to be daring or cautious from our own experience. The first time something happens you are not going to know the correct way to react, but if you learn from that and make the right decision next time, you are becoming wise. If you make a mistake and the situation recurs but you didn’t learn from the first time then you aren’t wise.

Life calls for quick reactions and sometimes we react the wrong way. In the “Dead Poet’s Society”, Mr. Keating speaks using this quote after a daring attempt which gets one of the boys in serious trouble. In this case Mr. Keating feels that he should have been more cautious but he is going to have to learn from his mistake and move on with his life and not do it again. In almost all of our lives we have a situation we must face where we must decide to be daring or cautious. The boys in the movie also had to make a choice, which they couldn’t do on their own before being taught by Mr. Keating. This quote as a whole means we must make decisions, sometimes the decisions can be harder to make, but we must make them and we must learn from them so we can one day become wise. One time I had to make a quick decision when someone asked me a question but I made the wrong choice. Instead of just forgetting everything, I made a mental note of them so the next time I had a similar situation I could make the right decision.

Carpe diem, seize the day, make your lives extraordinary.

“Carpe diem, seize the day, make your lives extraordinary.”  is a quote from Dead Poet’s Society and this relates to me in many ways. Make the day yours, live life to the fullest. Make every day of your life worth it and don’t regret anything. Stand up to one of your biggest fears and make your fear afraid of you. Be different from everything and everyone else; be your own self  and don’t be a follower, be a leader, be extraordinary and live your life to the extreme. I want to live my life to the fullest and be different from everyone and be a leader. I want to be my own self and make a person out of me. I want to be known by people for being different, and not a follower. I’m usually a follower and I never really thought for myself and I never thought of becoming a leader. I’ll do this by standing up for what I believe in and be myself. I always would be like everyone and I wasn't myself.  Make your lives worth it because one day you’ll be “food for worms”, we all are. I will be different and make myself known for that and make every day of my life extraordinary and not regret anything because this will shape who I am in the future. My plans are to become a someone and not a nobody!

What will your verse be?

What will your verse be?

What is poetry? Why do we read and write poetry in the first place; what is the reason, if not to feel or experience fame ourselves? “We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for...” Poetry is like a mathematical equation that can be solved to find the truth of life, the truth of truly living. You can be alive without truly living. You may have a heartbeat, but no emotion or soul. Life is not only about the necessary concepts of life, life is passion, life is poetry. If you stop to ask yourself “what is poetry,” you should find that you have a fast act of knowledge toward defining the concept that is so easily learned. Poetry is not a concept, but a lifestyle. Poetry is not reading from the lines of a textbook or journal, poetry is passion and passion is life. We do not learn poetry in a way it is meant to be driven into life. We may think that poetry can be learned in a classroom or taught by an academic but what is poetry without the deeper meaning it is meant to cause a reader to feel? Can you be taught what to feel or are emotions a natural way of response toward a cause. What would your life be without the equation of life, without the concept of poetry?
Poetry can date back to ancient times and from then we can learn the same concepts that life today repeats. Any history buff would know that history repeats over and over again in every way possible. Just stop and think about the fact that thousands of times before you (maybe in the same year) there was another and another doing the same thing you are doing at this moment and at almost every moment of every thing you do there is someone doing the same. This concept makes being unique a difficulty to all human beings, but this should cause you to act even more daring (more unique) in order to keep up with all others, it should not deter your life  and your acting as an onliest in your previously mundane lives. “To quote from Whitman, “O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life?” Answer. That you are here- that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be? The world defines identity as the fact of being who or what a person or thing is. You can read it over and over again and still feel like it is missing some piece like an unfinished puzzle. The definition of identity does not stop here, it goes much further. Identity is the word that defines you, your identity is your beliefs and your feelings, identity is standing up for these beliefs, it is the group of feelings and emotions that create you. I hope to be able to contribute a great verse on the world before my death. My verse will be one of change, one that will make a difference on the world. My plan is to one day be a trademark of peace and environment by standing for non-violence and by promoting a green thumb across the Earth. I want to make sure that everyone in our world knows that anything they do will make a difference by creating an online-change organization. Through this I hope to begin with the peace between children and then travel onto peace between adults! Identity is the solution to the equation of poetry...
It pays off to stop and think about what your life is in a whole. Life is only a piece to history that does not end in death. After death your life lives in the actions you took part in during your time on Earth. And as it pays to think about your life it pays to stop and think about who would know you without poetry in your life. Who would take the time to remember a person who has no verse contributed in the powerful play of the world, someone without uniqueness, identity, passion, or beliefs. So again ask yourself; What is poetry? Why do we read and write poetry in the first place, what is the reason if not to feel or experience fame ourselves? We do this because poetry equals life and life equals passions plus beliefs and identity! What will your verse be? I know mine!

Seize the day.

                                    Dead Poets Society

“Seize the day, because, believe it or not, each and every one of us in this room is one day going to stop breathing, turn cold and die.” This is a quote from Mr. Keating of Dead Poet’s Society. This quote explains the meaning of life in two sentences. This quote touched me because life goes on fast so you have to live it and make good things happen in this short life. Life is too short to wait for things last minute because anyone can die any day anywhere, of anything. This quote means a lot to me because we haven't got a chance to see what the world is like because we’re not free yet. Right now we all live around nothing but violence. Life is you go to school, you graduate, you get a job, you get married, you have kids, then you die. You can be 10 years old one day, you blink your eyes and then you're 70 years old! Everyone dies so everyone has to live life to the fullest. Seize the day like you're going to die tomorrow!
On my journey through life I'm going to make all right choices and live by this quote. I am going to make sure that my life is a good one. When I choose my path I’ll make sure it is a good path. I’ll try not to make any bad choices and stay with the path I pick. When you choose your path to live be careful because you could go down a wrong road.

“Do not be afraid to pursue your passion. Take control of every single day and bend it to your will.”

“Do not be afraid to pursue your passion. Take control of every single day and bend it to your will.”

This quote was said by Mr.Keating from Dead Poets Society because he didn’t want the boys to fall into conformity and going into the same path. That quote made me think about what my passion is. To be completely honest, I don’t know anymore. I started out wanting to be a ( cat only ) Vet but it just didn’t stick with me. I then wanted to be a Fashion designer. It’s weird because I never actually told anyone that I wanted to go down the road of fashion. I thought it sounded too cliche because doesn’t almost every other girl want to be a fashion designer? I mean I still want to be one but I’m not so certain about it. It’s like I don’t want to be one of those girls who go for the same career but I want to pursue my passion because it is what I can see myself doing in the future. I’m trying not to contradict myself but it is difficult to get my point across without doing it. I’m not taking control of my life and trying to bend it to my will. I don’t know who is to be exact.

I guess that was kind of confusing even for me. What I am basically saying is I don’t want to fit into the category of conformity but I want to go for my passion in life. I’m quite fond of the fact that I enjoy doing it and that I believe I can do it. No one has told me I’m not going to make it or anything because I haven’t built the courage up to say it ( I mean now they know because I said it about two or three times already ).I have made my decision in life but just haven’t taken control. I will though,as soon as I find out how.

Life is a constant battle, and we are forever left on the field...

“This is a battle, a war, and the casualties could be your hearts and souls.” This quote is from “Dead Poets Society”, said by Mr. Keating, the boy’s English teacher. For some reason, this quote stuck to me once I heard it. Maybe it’s because throughout life you suffer from battles. The battle could be anything: addiction, family problems, serious losses, and depression. We fight these battles, some lasting longer than others, some leaving bigger scars than others or some leaving you hanging on your last wits. These battles could be life changing, for the better or for the worse. To me, everyone has a battle they are currently fighting. These battles could be if you should smoke that cigarette today or take another swig of alcohol, or even if you should eat another piece of cake. If you think you're not fighting a battle, then you’re wrong. You’re fighting against whether to face the truth or to keep making excuses to avoid them. These battles could leave you with a broken soul and heart, but some can leave you stronger and sometimes happier.
In “Dead Poets Society”, the boys all had battles of their own. All of which connected to pleasing their parents or living up to their expectations. Some of their battles were less serious, some overcoming them. Neil’s battle was ended short, while Todd’s battle was turning for the better. These boys fought these battles in different ways, but they all had inspiration: Carpe Diem. Mr. Keating helped the boys through this, through it to the very end. They grew stronger, and they learned a few things along the way. They learned that life is a battle, a war, and the casualties could be your hearts and souls.
I don’t know what I’m battling right now. I’m battling something, but it just hasn't come to mind what it could be. I feel as though some of your biggest battles go without you even noticing it until the end. I know I've battled things in the past, some of which I lost, but some of which I came up stronger and tried again to win. The battles of my past have made me who I am right now, and I guess I’m happy. Because if I were to win all these battles, I’m not sure if I would be pleased with myself.  I know as I go on into high school some of my greatest battles will come into play, and I pray that I overcome. These battles however, will change me. They will make me the person I’m supposed to be. I just hope these battles only change me for the better, and make me a better person. I’m not sure if i’m even prepared for these battles, but honestly, is anyone? We shouldn't be fearful of them, but instead build up all the courage and will to come out victorious.  So for now, I'll raise my weapon, and prepare for the battles that will come about in my future. Because, I know life is a battle, a war, and the casualties could be your hearts and souls.

D.P.S. Quote

"Sucking the marrow out of life doesn't mean choking on the bone." Doesn't mean choking on the bone...words to live by.
The world around us is alive and we must dance with it wherever it takes us. Who said that I don’t know; I do know that the man who wrote that drew it from the marrow of life! He woke up and stated his own philosophy to many people and it still lives on today. He sucked the marrow out of life and he gained immortality...what would you gain? I can assure you that actual immortality is not a literal gift, though there are gifts that will become immortal...memories of a first kiss, of first love and even heartbreak will stay with and both haunt you and remind you of the things you took risks to accomplish and how they shaped and excited you. Risks are something humans are naturally scared to do but thankful they did...most of the time.
Taking a risk isn't bad or stupid...believe me I've taken risks they gave me great memories that I love to recall. But risks are where you can choke on the bone and where sucking the marrow becomes harder to define. If you sucked the marrow out of life does that mean to even gorge yourself? By saying this I mean that that you shouldn't take drugs that make you feel on top of the world but actually, try and become a leader,a millionaire, whatever suits you.Don’t go out and have sexual relations with many women because you feel like a ‘’man’’, make love to the love of your life.Look at me I’m giving my honest belief out in the open and using a font that my teacher will surely hate. I advise everyone reading this to go and take a chance on someone or something you love; learn how to fly a plane, write a novel, put all of your trust and love in one person. Just know when it comes to sucking the marrow out of life and choking on the bone.
I hope all who listen and live by this quote and advice live a happy life that gives you great memories.I hope you suck all the marrow out of life and then pick another bone.

Don't choke on the bone.

“Sucking the marrow out of life doesn't mean choking on the bone” said by Mr. Keating from Dead Poet’s Society, it means live freely but don’t die being stupid. Sucking the marrow out of life, taking everything that it’s worth is what life is all about. Reaching out to grab the life raft because you purposely jumped off is not the purpose. People say you're alive and well and in reality the only thing separating you from death is your heart beat. You aren't living until you actually feel it inside that you are alive. You're not supposed to wait for the train to your destination; you're supposed to find your own way there. This quote has truly affected my view of everything. Just from this quote, my entire perspective of life has changed. You're supposed to live life to the fullest but try not to die getting full. With all the hatred and despair holding people back, is it actually possible not to choke on the bone?
Living, truly living in this world, in my opinion, isn't hard. The hard part about it is not to take the dumbest way out of it or to go through making the worst of everything. The way the quote got to me was a simply blunt and straightforward statement. Live being free but don’t abuse that freedom. In other words,  make your mark on the world on in the most positive way possible. I truly have no clue on what living for me could be. I could be crazy, smart, artistic, or just plain and live in moderation of all things, at least I know I can get there. A person can go their entire lives without living. Sure there is breathing but how are they actually living. I don’t know any possible way to actually live, I could try and try but I could never find out. Living to me is doing what I love and being happy with it. I’ll never have to succeed in it if I’m truly happy. I guess that’s the base of live and how you get through it. Be happy and live like you're about to die!
