“If everything’s the same, then there aren't any choices! I want to wake up in the morning and decide things!” This quote from “The Giver” expresses Jonas’ anger toward the sameness and order of the community. It gives us the idea that he wants to change the world he lives in.
Decisions are extremely important. They separate us from machines. We need decisions because without them we aren't human. Imagine if all 7 billion people in the world couldn’t choose. Would you want to live in that world? I think not, because decisions are one of the most important things in a person’s life. One little choice to wear blue instead of orange can change the whole outcome of a day. We need decisions, they make sure we are in control, not someone else. What if we didn't have decisions? Life would be horrible! Everyone would be a drone sent out to do their task. Without decisions we wouldn't be human! The average person makes about 228 decisions a day. Now if we didn't make those decisions we would be like a dog, trained to do what our master wants when the master wants it. There wouldn't be a point to living. Would you want to live without being able to make decisions? I know I wouldn't; I’d rather die!
