As I have said before in the same context, teachers are accurate images as good examples. Tattoos would diminish said image. I wouldn't hate my teacher for having a tattoo but rather I would feel somewhat uneasy around him/her. In conclusion, teachers are free to make their own choices as others are too but have an image to live up to unlike others of the common public.

Teachers With Tattoos
A teacher is to provide a good example for students to follow. Obtaining a tattoo whilst having the title of "teacher" would set a bad example. While I have no personal issue with tattoos, they are usually viewed as the symbol of delinquency. However, it also depends on what the tattoo is of as I can make exceptions. Exceptions include the tattoo being the name of one's child or something touching, other than that I don't wish to see my teacher with a skull across his/her wrist for the remain of my school time.

I have seen a man (not a teacher) have a tattoo of his father who died in a plane crash. It was a powerful reminder of a very special relationship. In some African tribes, tattoos mark a coming of age or tell a story of a hunt. I agree with you that teachers have a public image to uphold, so they must be careful about what they do, say, or wear. I also know that good teachers will say, "Do not judge a book by its cover." Do you think that applies to teachers with tattoos? I enjoyed reading your post!

ReplyDeleteI thank you for commenting and I deeply apologize for my extremely delayed response. Yes, I do believe the saying, "Do not judge a book by its cover." applies to teachers with tattoos. However; with an... inappropriate (for a lack of better words) cover, most will not dwell further into the book, or in this case, the teacher with the tattoo. First impressions are significant, having a tattoo as a teacher could, if not would, give an undesirable first impression. Let's make a scenario, you are in need of filling one position and two people come to interview. They both look the same, wrinkle-less shirt and whatnot, however; you spot a tattoo peeking out of one's shirt. It gave you somewhat of a bad impression but it comes down to the interview. In the end, you'll progress past the cover and learn more about the book/person and what's inside is what's important.
