Sucking The Marrow Out Of Life!!!!

"Sucking the marrow out of life doesn't mean choking on the bone." In the movie, Dead Poets Society, the students in Welton Academy were preparing to go to Ivy league schools to be doctors, lawyers or judges. The words that Mr Keating spoke to the boys changed their minds. They didn't want to do what their parents wanted; they wanted to be actors, musicians, sports players. They were rebels. They didn't do what their parents wanted; they did what they wanted!
The quote read by Mr. Keating makes me think about doing things that are not ordinary. Doing things “normal” is no longer an option; I have to go above and beyond. I do have a few phobias that might hold me back from being more than normal, but I think that I could overcome those fears for an exciting adventure or special activity that I wouldn't do normally.

  3. Nice post, Carlton. I really like this post because you explained what the quote meant. I think that a lot of people follow what their parents say they should do instead of doing their own thing. I think that it's important that kids learn to speak up for what they care about instead of being followers.

  12. Nice job Carlton. You called the students who didn't want to be a doctor or a lawyer "Rebels". I'm not sure this is the right word to use to describe them. I would consider them independent. They are chasing their own dreams. not their parent's dreams. This makes them more independent than a rebel. Good job!

  15. Great post! I think it is important to follow your dreams and make yourself happy not just your parents. I don't think that following your dreams and not following your parents would be considered being a rebel.
