Integrity: do you have it?

What is integrity? In my opinion, integrity is when an opportunity occurs where you can make a profit by doing the wrong thing, but you do the right thing instead, not because someone is watching, but out of the goodness of your heart. In our world today not many people are left who have integrity. If the opportunity occurs many people will just do what is beneficial for them, rather than what is the right thing to do.  A person of integrity lives a moral, honest life. In order to live a life of integrity you must do what is right. Say you see someone forget something, but it is something that you want or need, a person of integrity wouldn’t even have to think twice about giving it to it’s rightful owner. Having integrity isn’t just doing the right thing when someone is watching, or when the situation is major. You must do the right, and moral thing everyday. In school if you are having trouble with your work, a person of integrity would ask for help, a person without integrity would take answers from others. Integrity is a pretty hard thing to have, but it is easier to live a moral life if you are taught to live that way.

I try my best in my everyday life to have integrity. Some days it is harder than others, because maybe you forgot to study for a test, or you found money on the ground that does not belong to you. Even though it is really hard when things like that happen, you must do what is right. I always think I must react how I would want others to react if the situation was the other way around. I am not always a person of integrity, but most of the time I try my best to do what is honest and right. I want to live a life of integrity, and as I get older, but right now I am not really a person of integrity. Even though I am not always a person of integrity,  if I find something that doesn’t belong to me I am not going to keep it, even if I do need it. There may be some doubt in my own head, and the heads of others, but I will do what is moral no matter what the circumstances.

  4. You’re blog was very well written! When I read, “If the opportunity occurs many people will just do what is beneficial for them, rather than what is the right thing to do” it stood out to me. That sentence is very true. I try to have integrity but sometimes it’s more challenging to do especially when doing the wrong thing is easier and more efficient.

  5. Very nice and thorough blog, Emily! I liked it because you gave me and the other readers a better understanding of what integrity is by giving us examples of what most people do in a certain situation versus what people with integrity would do. The part where you said, "integrity is when an opportunity occurs where you can make a profit by doing the wrong thing, but you do the right thing instead." When I read that part that was when I understood what integrity was.

  7. I really enjoyed reading your blog, Emily! When I was reading "I am not always a person of integrity, but most of the time I try my best to do what is honest and right" I was glad because I can really relate to that. I also didn't fully understand the meaning of integrity when I googled it but your blog helped me understand a little better.:-)

  10. This blog was a joy to read! This excerpt from your blog had a an impact on me "I am not always a person of integrity, but most of the time I try my best to what is honest and right". This is so true because in today's society there are not many people of integrity.

  11. I really loved reading your blog Emily! I knew what integrity was before but you really opened me up to a whole knew meaning of integrity. I love these sentences "Having integrity isn’t just doing the right thing when someone is watching, or when the situation is major. You must do the right, and moral thing everyday." This is true you should always preform acts of integrity even behind closed doors.

  12. Awesome blog post!!! I really liked your definition of integrity, and I also really liked the way you described the characteristics a person with integrity should have. You made a really great point when you said that it is a really hard task to be a person of integrity, but no matter how hard the task is everyone should always try to be a person of integrity. :)

  13. Your blog post was very well written Emily! The fact you stated having integrity is true moral decisions, through the goodness of your heart, and not when someone is watching, is very true. Many people out in the world may not have integrity, but through you words, I was able to see the integrity that you have as a person. You used detailed, emphasized words as well. -Iliza -SGGS

    1. Yes, if more people tried to have integrity we would be living in a better world, and all it takes is doing the right thing.

  15. Your definition of integrity seemed really spot on to me! The part about acts of integrity being done " not because someone was watching" really made integrity something more meaningful because it causes us to realize that we are not doing things because it is our mandate. We are doing things because of who we are and how God calls us to act. Great blog, Emily.

  16. I really liked your blog, especially your definition of integrity. It seems more personal than what a dictionary would have. I also liked the part about you saying you are not really a person of integrity. Even though you say that you still notice things that you should and shouldn't do. Someone that notices things like that definitly has integrity. Your blog is very nice, I hope I can read more soon.

  18. This is a wonderful post. I like how you said, integrity is when an opportunity occurs where you can make a profit by doing the wrong thing, but you do the right thing instead, not because someone is watching, but out of the goodness of your heart. Now which is the easier option? Which is the better?

    1. I think that doing what you want is easier, rather then doing the right thing, but the moral option is the better one, but you may have other opinions.

  19. This is a very good post. I really like how you put in that you are not a person of integrity but you try to be one. Do you think it would get easier to have integrity if you do it everyday or would it stay the same? Is it always a good thing to have integrity? Are there some times when it is ok to not have integrity? Anyway great job on your post!

    1. Yes, Alexandra I think that if we tried to live a life of integrity each day it could get easier. It is also good to have integrity, because not only would you be considered a moral person, you would feel good about yourself. No one will have integrity at all times, no one is perfect, but if we all try our best integrity one day integrity will be everywhere.
